Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is a hormonal condition when women body starts producing male hormones in excess and can cause infertility in the future.

This can leads to more other changes like unusual hair growth on the face, irregular menstrual cycle and acne. It usually happens due to the high level of insulin that causes ovaries producing testosterone in excess.

What Causes Irregular Periods?

Irregular Menstrual Cycle, also called oligomenorrhea can occur due to many reasons. Progesterone and estrogen are the two hormones that regulate the menstrual cycle. Treatment of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome generally focuses on the symptoms like obesity, irregular periods, acne and infertility. Birth Control pills are used to regulate menstrual cycles as they have a combination of estrogen and progestin.

Metformin is a drug to control the level of blood sugar. It regulates diabetes by lowering the level of insulin. Progestin is a hormone which is recommended to regulate the menstrual cycle. It is prescribed to prevent Endometrial Cancer. This can be prescribed for 2 to 3 months.

Surgery (Ovarian Drilling) – Electrolysis is a method in which each follicle is burnt on the surface of the ovary. It is done to reduce the level of androgens being produced.
